Sunny’s shining at Hornsby

Store news

Battery World’s newest franchisee Sunny Guo knew the time was right to open his own business with a move back to Australia after nine years in Asia.

Hailing from China, the new face of Battery World Hornsby was a member of the executive team of the Hengdeli Group, a Hong Kong listed company specialising in the wholesale, retail, after sales service and component manufacturing of Swiss-made watches in the region of mainland China, Hong Kong and Taiwan.

Although he has only been back in Australia for a year, Sunny previously worked here in IT for seven years before heading back to China and now plans to move into the Hornsby area, which is close to his children’s school.

“I was very keen to own my own business and be my own boss,” Sunny said, “Australia is a great country to establish your own business. Three things drew me to Battery World. The first is there is an apparent barrier of entry to this business:  it is a specialised field with a bit of capital requirement; second was it offered stable income and third was there were growth opportunities: organic same store growth combined with the possibility of new store openings. The soundness of Battery World business model was also attractive but I really think the leadership team is great and on the right track with an amazing productive and transparent culture in place.

“I want to really make a difference in this community and make Battery World Hornsby the first choice for people in this area when they need a battery solution or have a problem with a battery related issue. There are a lot of migrants here from all places in the world and I really like that multicultural diversity.”

Battery World Network Development Manager Alex Forbes said Sunny was a perfect fit for the Hornsby area.

“The Hornsby Shire Council residential population is just over 170,000,” Mr Forbes said,  “Sunny brings with him international business ownership and cultural awareness to drive the business further. His understanding of ‘what the consumer wants to achieve’, rather than ‘what product they want to buy’ will provide the community with genuine solutions and expert advice.”

Married with two children aged 15 and 11, Sunny says he easily identifies with just how many batteries a typical family goes through every year and is confident his business will grow at the same speed his children are growing up.
